Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Telegraph reported that Kyle Walker-Peters is ‘hoping’ to team up with the Eagles.
“There could also be outgoings at Spurs this month, with Kyle Walker-Peters hoping to join Crystal Palace on loan while the club are trying to offload Christian Eriksen this month in order to get a fee for him.”
Both the south Londoners and Southampton have been linked with the England U21 right-back, who was believed to be pencilled in to meet Roy Hodgson and Ralph Hasenhuttl this week – if The Telegraph’s report is anything to go by, he has already made his decision.
Walker-Peters has struggled for game time at Tottenham this season under both Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho, making just three Premier League starts, one Champions League start and one Carabao Cup start.
Hodgson confirmed before Crystal Palace’s game against Arsenal that talks were ongoing between the Eagles and Spurs over a deal for the 22-year-old, while The Athletic said that a move was ‘close’ on January 8th of their Transfer Tracker.
His arrival would provide much-needed depth at right-back, where Joel Ward is the only natural option in that role – incidentally, the former Portsmouth man has been injured since the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Selhurst Park, where Martin Kelly has been covering for him.
Let’s see how the Palace fans on Twitter reacted to the news…
Would rather Ferguson, Bogle or Aarons.
My bet is we’re planning on getting KWP on loan, then if he flops in the summer going for one of the other two, or if KWP does well, sign him for 8 mill https://t.co/w2Z0jYOzOy

I’d rather Ferguson

Would rather someone better he’s 22 nearly 23 and apparently ain’t even that good
— Cpfc_eagles_fp (@cpfc_fp) January 15, 2020
To kick off the discussion regarding The Telegraph’s update, these three supporters all said that they’d rather see someone else come through the door instead of Walker-Peters.
Luke said that he’d “rather Ferguson, Bogle or Aarons” in reference to three other targets of Palace’s in the right-back position – they have been linked with swoops for West Brom’s Nathan Ferguson, Derby’s Jayden Bogle and Norwich’s Max Aarons (The Mirror, print version, 5th July, page 61).
Mark said that he’d prefer Ferguson too, while ‘Cpfc_eagles_fp’ said that they’d rather “someone better” as the Tottenham man “ain’t even that good”.
YOU BEAUTYYYYYYY, he spoke to the managers of Southampton and palace, he wanted to join us because of Roy https://t.co/mMpavEx2uH

Elsewhere, Kev made reference to the Walker-Peters’ aforementioned meetings with Hodgson and Hasenhuttl, before making the slightly speculative, but logical, point that the right-back “wanted to join us because of Roy”.
Would be a decent signing this. Hope it happens 🤞🏻 https://t.co/N1IEInzWZ1

Lastly, these two supporters both voiced their support of this transfer deal, with George saying that it “would be a decent signing” and that he hopes it happens.
Call yourself a Premier League expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
Another fan named Mitch said that it was a “no brainer really”.
In other news, these Crystal Palace fans have been discussing a target who “doesn’t fit Roy’s style”…
