Deja vu anyone? Despite entering 2020 and thus a new decade, it appears the Thomas Lemar and Arsenal story wants to add another chapter to it.

The Frenchman was the subject of a whopping £92m bid from the north London side back in the summer of 2017, but a deal failed to materialise before the end of the deadline.

Now, speaking to Sky Sports, Spanish football expert Alvaro Montero has revealed that should Atletico Madrid fail to sign PSG striker Edinson Cavani, they could make a move for Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette.

That in turn would raise the possibility of seeing Lemar head in the opposite direction to finally arrive at the Emirates.

And after hearing about the possible swap deal, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the situation, with a couple drawing comparisons to the last time the Gunners were involved in something similar.

Some Gunners fans insisted that whilst Lacazette may not be in the greatest form at the moment – he has no goals in his last five Premier League games – he would come back to deliver for them once more.

Another couple of supporters however felt that this would be a “massive W” for the club, with one fan in particular insisting Lacazette is “finished”.

A few fans of the north London side brought up the prospect of receiving Thomas Partey instead of Lemar, and that the central midfielder’s inclusion in a proposed deal may be far more enticing.

Despite not being in the greatest of goal-scoring form this season for the Gunners – he has scored just six goals in 19 games across all competitions – Lacazette remains a proven finisher with 171 career strikes. The Frenchman is simply going through an incredibly rough patch, and it certainly doesn’t help that his side have performed below expectations too, finding them tenth in the Premier League table.

Swapping Lacazette for Lemar – a player who has endured an even worse season with Atletico by not scoring a single goal yet – would be a major backwards step for the Gunners. It’s a potential offer they have to turn down no matter what.

Meanwhile, Arsenal fans are buzzing after their transfer interest in a Brazilian midfielder was confirmed by the club’s president.
